The Farmhouse

The estate known as Caiolo (a name of Longobardo origin referring to the place where horses were raised for the army) was a property of the Orsini family, ancestors of the present owners. In 1950 they expanded the estate by buying surrounding land from the Counts of Sottocasa. At the heart of the estate are the four farmhouses, the main house and the swimming pool with whirlpool which make up the Agriturismo La Fonte complex. The houses are free-standing and separated by a distance of about 400-500 metres, situated in the peaceful countryside among gently rolling hills and surrounded by woods, farmland, olive groves and vineyards. At the edge of the estate is the hamlet of Migliaolo, home to the main family house and a small church dating from the sixteenth century. Two kilometres from La Fonte is the town of Panicale and Lake Trasimeno is 10 kilometers away. The farm produces wheat, sunflowers, maize and excellent olive oil and wine which guests can buy. There are fruit trees all around and the woods are home to pheasants, porcupines and other small wildlife. The area is ideal for walking and hiking and there is also a stable with riding facilities on the property.
